Biography

Born in Hokkaido in 1963. Interested in woodworking from an early age, he graduated from the Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Lacquerware in 1990 and completed his research studies in woodwork at Takaoka Junior College. In 1996, he founded Were Woodwork, Ltd. in Ibaraki Prefecture, a lacquer-producing region.
Awards:
1998: Encouragement Award at the Ibaraki Prefectural Arts Festival
2006: Newcomer Award at the Eastern Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition
Selected for the Japan Traditional Crafts Exhibition
2013: Prepared the sacred treasures for the Shikinen Sengu (yearly reconstruction) of Ise Grand Shrine
2015: Certified as a Master of Forestry by the National Land Afforestation Promotion Organization
