Vision
Cedar barrels were once used in many aspects of Japanese life, but in recent years have been replaced by cheaper plastic ones. Hakusan Concept, led by Tokumaru Shigeto, is a brand created by a four-person unit consisting of a wooden barrel maker, a furniture maker, and a woodworker. Utilizing traditional barrel-making techniques, they create furniture and household items such as chairs, plates, and microwaveable lunch boxes that embody the beauty of Japanese craftsmanship. Their vision is for "every household to own a barrel." Through thoughtful design, production, and marketing, they aim to revitalize cherished woodworking traditions while restoring the sustainability of local forests by utilizing domestic timber.
