Vision
Comprised of the exceptionally talented Taiwanese-born British architect Yang Heng Chen and accomplished weaver and textile designer Noriko Tsuiki, this team seeks to revitalize crafts through works using a variety of natural materials, including wood, bamboo, and woven fabrics. Tsuiki is a master craftsman who revived traditional Kokura-ori (Kokura weaving) in the 1980s, restoring the leather-like, intricately woven fabric once used to fabricate samurai hakama. They have also designed interiors and products incorporating Kokura-ori stripes. Chen is an innovative architect with a visionary vision for reshaping the relationship between traditional crafts and interiors. The two are transforming the landscape of design by incorporating new interpretations of traditional crafts into contemporary architecture and interiors, such as through their Kokura-ori art panels.
