Vision
Tokunaga Furniture Studio, a family-run business nestled in the lush satoyama woodlands, crafts unique furniture using a planer to maximize the natural luster and texture of the wood. Each craftsman crafts a custom-made plane to match the shape of the chair, listening to the sound as they shave with the plane and sensing the flow of the wood's fibers with their fingertips. Of the approximately 1,000 varieties of washi paper, this particular one combines strength with a translucent beauty. The seats and backrests are woven from this paper, which combines softness and durability, gently embracing the sitter's body and mind. Tokunaga Furniture Studio's vision is to revitalize and enrich the traditional planer-finishing culture of their hometown, Miki City. This will regenerate the natural environment, including forests, ensure the sustainable procurement of essential domestic raw materials, and support the revival of local satoyama culture for future generations.
